Who We Are
The District of North Vancouver Firefighters Association Local 1183 has proudly served our community for over 60 years. Located across the Burrard Inlet from Downtown Vancouver, North Vancouver is a scenic ocean and mountainside community located on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. Due to its abundance of hiking trails, canyons, rivers and mountain biking trails, it is fast becoming the outdoor playground for the Metro Vancouver area. Annually, our IAFF Local 1183 members respond 24/7 to thousands of emergency calls from five fire stations. We provide a professional fire-rescue response from the Burrard Inlet waterfront to the North Shore Mountains and areas in between. We specialize in several aspects of fire rescue, including structural and wildland interface firefighting, auto extrication, canyon rescue, medical emergencies, mountain bike trail rescue, public education, Grouse Grind rescue, swift water rescue and fire prevention. We pride ourselves on how we have adapted to meet the complexities of the modern fire service and, in turn, provide the highest levels of services to our residents and visitors alike. Active in the community, the membership runs a charitable society that donates to various groups. Donations have gone to fighting cancer, burn injuries, mental health, muscular dystrophy, supporting athletics, kids' groups, and animal welfare societies.
